Nature
The Cemetery is highly valued as a ‘green space’ in a built-up urban environment. By increasing the variety of trees, shrubs and wildflowers we hope to have improved the diversity of habitats and wildlife, whilst preserving the formal appearance and appeal of the Cemetery. In 2007 an extensive consultation exercise was undertaken: we distributed 2000+ questionnaires to local residents of which some 440 were completed and returned. Analysis of these views informed the changes we have made. We are grateful to Guy Belcher, Biodiversity Officer for the City, for advice and support.
If you would like to help with gardening and wildlife work in the Cemetery, please get in touch. Many hands make lighter work and it’s also a really enjoyable way of meeting your neighbours!
